Provincial Snowmobile Safety Week

Two local organizations are recognizing this week as Provincial Snowmobile Safety Week. It’s a joint effort by the OPP and the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs, with a message for snowmobilers to focus on their own safety, and of others. They say that with the current weather, it is to still unsafe to ride on any water ways. They also remind people not to ride in the dark, don’t speed or ride impaired. The OPP says 58 per cent of snowmobiling deaths involved drugs or alcohol, 57 involved speeding, and 58 involved riding in the dark. 87 per cent of death involved male riders, 58 involved riders or passengers between 35 and 54-years-old.
