Police say romance scams have caused victims severe financial hardship.
Constable Josee Sabourin says the fraudster specifically picks people they think will fall for the scam.
In 2015, the Romance Scam generated 300Â complaints and claimed 216 victims in Ontario who lost $7.9 million. Police admit 95 percent of the crimes go unreported.
Anyone who has been a victim is asked to contact the OPP.
