The Minden Hills Fire Department is warning the public about the dangers of Chinese lanterns.
Officials say they are becoming popular worldwide as a means of celebrating special occasions, but they carry a significant risk of fire or injury.
They urge the public to be careful because the lanterns can get caught in a tree, or land on a roof.
