Minden Hills drop plans to prevent left turns from Water St. to Bobcaygeon Rd.

Local businesses asked Minden Hills to reconsider plans to prevent left turns from Water Street onto Bobcaygeon Road. Councillors heard from many residents and local businesses after they announced plans in January. A three way stop at the intersection was proposed by downtown businesses, to allow safer access for visitors and residents, but keep them in the downtown core. The local fire department and EMS don’t want stop signs on Bobcaygeon road, saying it could back up traffic significantly during the busy summer months, causing problems for emergency vehicles. Council agreed to drop plans to prevent left turns, but will continue to slow traffic down to 40 km an hour on Bobcaygeon Road from Highway 35 to Peck Street. They will also move flower boxes on the bridge, which interfere with sightlines.
