Haliburton County’s OPP costs could jump by $5.2 million

Haliburton County’s policing costs would jump by $5.2 million a year if the OPP’s proposed billing formula gets accepted. The Haliburton Echo reports that the County’s OPP Bill is currently at $3.3 million and the push is on to find a more affordable solution. Haliburton is the second most adversely affected area in the Province, second only to Muskoka which would see its bill rise from an annual $9.7 million to $17 million. An OPP billing steering committee created by the Association of Municipalities of Ontario meets on a regular basis to address the issue.
