The rain is helping fire crews bring a fire under control in Algonquin Park, but the total fire ban remains in effect.

MNRF Fire Information Officer Shane McCool says fire crews are getting the fire in the High Falls area of the park under control thanks to last night’s rain and more patchy rain today.

A second, smaller fire is almost out.

Twelve campsites had to be evacuated earlier this week and McCool says no one has been hurt because of the fires.

There are no fires allowed inside the park, that includes for cooking and warmth.  For more information on fire bans in Ontario’s parks go to this website.
