Update: Markham man killed in plane crash in Peterborough

The Peterborough Police Service is looking for witnesses after a Markham man died in a plane crash in the city of Peterborough early this morning.

Police say, just after 1:00am, a small Piper aircraft crashed on Landsdowne Street and High Street.

Police have now confirmed a 21-year-old man was killed in the crash, although his name is not being released.

He was the only person in the plane.

Police also determined the plane had been stolen from the Markham Airport.

The York Regional Police are now helping with the investigation into the theft, and ask anyone with information to contact them at 1-866-876-5423 ext. 7541.

Transport Canada is also investigating what caused the plane to crash.
