For the first time, Trillium Lakelands District School Board is offering the HPV vaccine to boys.

This comes as school-based vaccinations will soon start in Haliburton County.

The Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Pine Ridge District Health Unit says previously the vaccine was only available for girls in grade eight.

But now, it will be offered to all grade seven students including boys.

Our local health unit says the change was made because both genders can get cancer from HPV.

Parents can expect an information package and a consent form in the next couple of weeks.
