Our local OPP is starting a new campaign

This Thanksgiving long weekend, the Haliburton Highlands OPP will be part of a national road safety campaign.

During Operation Impact, officers will be targeting aggressive and distracted drivers, those who don’t wear their seatbelts properly, and those who drink and drive.

Constable Phillip Regamey has also issued a reminder to drivers.

The OPP says, between 2011 and 2015, over 1,500 people died on OPP patrolled roads.

This includes 321 deaths related to alcohol or drugs, 336 from speeding, 408 from inattentive driving, and 335 from not wearing seat belts.
