A man from Haliburton County is being recognized by Fleming College for his community service.

Sean Pennylegion has received the Brian L. Desbiens Community Service Award in appreciation of his commitment, and concern for the county.

Pennylegion first became involved in the community while attending the Ecotourism Management program at Fleming’s Haliburton Campus 16 years ago.

He’s volunteered at the Haliburton County Folk Society, the Highland Summer Festival, the Haliburton Art and Craft Festival, and the Hike Haliburton Festival.

Pennylegion is also part of the committee that sponsored a Syrian refugee family to come to Haliburton. He is now playing an active role to help the family transition to their new life.

Pennylegion nomination stated he’s constantly looking for opportunities to improve the quality of life for everyone.
