Snowmobile trails are not open yet, even with the recent snowfall

Snowmobile season is fast approaching, but this snow doesn’t mean the trails are ready yet.

The Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs is asking snowmobilers to keep their sleds parked, and stay off the trails because they are not open yet.

They say even going for a short ride can be dangerous this time of year. This is because the ground, waterways and swamps are not frozen yet, and there isn’t enough of a snow base to protect yourself and your sled from terrain irregularities.

Grooming operations have not started yet, so none of the OFSC trails are available to ride.

Trail permits are now available to buy online. To find out when trails are open in Haliburton County, and across Ontario, visit this website.
