The Haliburton Highlands OPP is warning residents of the dangers of online scams demanding payment for fines and traffic violations.
Emails and texts are being sent advising the recipient there is an unpaid provincial fine which needs to be paid. A link is also provided to click on which gives the account holder information on how to pay the payment for the outstanding fine.
Police say they also believe when you click on the link, malware is loaded onto your device which could damage it, and allow access to your device’s protected information.
They say to never click a hyperlink from any unknown sources. Delete these emails and texts if you receive them.
