A local man is making an app to connect people to events around them.

The resident from Haliburton Cole Rowden got the idea three years ago when he was with his roommates thinking about what to do. Rowden says there’s a deeper goal to it.

Rowden says every business needs to have a greater purpose than making money and getting famous. He says studies show 70 per cent of millennials are experiencing mental illness because of social media.

Rowden says he wants students in Haliburton County to know there are no boundaries just because of your location.

Rowden says the app is called getWyred, and a test version has been released on the app store.

He is hoping to have the final product released by January.
