Local Campgrounds To Small To Get The Small Business Tax Deduction

Our local MP wants campgrounds in Haliburton County to be recognized for what they are.

Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock MP Jamie Schmale says the Canada Revenue Agency has decided some campgrounds are too small to qualify for the small business tax deduction.

Schmale says each year almost 6 million Canadians camp. He says this business employs over 60,000 Canadians, and contributes almost five billion dollars to our country’s economy.

He says most of these campgrounds are family-run, and active. Schmale says CRA is grouping small campgrounds in the same category as apartment buildings, and mobile homes. He says if the company does this, there will be a lot of campground closures.

He is asking people in his riding to sign a petition calling on the Minister of Finance to make sure family-run campgrounds are granted active business status so they can claim small business tax deduction.

The petition can be found on our MP’s website.
