Haliburton County Is Facing An Expensive Winter

Heavy snowfall is costing Haliburton County this winter.  So far this winter, snow removal is costing $1,000,000 which is $400,000 more than last year.

Public Works Director, Craig Douglas, says the average overtime hours are up 124 hours every week compared to last winter because they are short staffed.

Douglas says they are almost $200,000 over budget, and is asking council to pay for it from the reserve fund. The request will be part of the budget talks, which begin next month.
