A Dangerous Plant Is Near Haliburton County

The most dangerous invasive plant in North America is making its way up Georgian Bay. It’s called phragmites, and is a tall, grassy plant, that grows like a fence. Executive Director of the charity Georgian Bay Forever, David Sweetnam, calls it a frightening plant, because it emits a poison that kills all of the other plants in the area, while taking over the entire space.

Sweetnam says the invasive plants can grow up to 18-feet tall, and once it starts growing it will keep doubling in size unless it gets cut down. He says anyone with concerns about the plant growing on your property can go to the Georgian Bay Forever website to check out the exact method to get rid of it. He says it’s not too late to eradicate the plant, but needs public help to do so.
