Developments are being made in building a communication tower in Minden. The tower is set to be built east of Duck Lake Road to provide better cellphone coverage from Horseshoe Lake to the south side of Mountain Lake.

At last week’s committee of the whole meeting, a Rogers Communication representative presented new plans to build a 30 meter tower instead of the originally proposed 100 meter tower. While the 100 meter tower would provide wider coverage, concerns were raised over the size and need for lighting on a tower that high.

After a site visit last week, Rogers is considering building a smaller 30 meter tower that will be mono-pine style, meaning it will be disguised to look like a tree. The smaller tower will mean less coverage, but Rogers can suggest building more towers in the future.

Public notices will go out as soon as the new proposal is completed.
