The number of snowmobiling deaths is on the rise in Ontario. The Haliburton Highlands OPP says there have been 13 deaths this winter, which is five more than last season. Officials say the majority of these deaths were from riders taking unnecessary risks, like speeding, drinking, and riding on unsafe ice. The OPP says that confirms dangerous behaviour is causing otherwise preventable tragedies.
