Today is World Read Aloud Day and the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit says it’s a day to celebrate the power of words and the importance of supporting literacy skills in young children.
Shelley Shaughnessy, a Family Health Nurse with the HKPR District Health Unit says .“Literacy is crucial for a child’s emotional and physical well-being, as well as future success,” Shaughnessy adds, “adults can create a powerful and memorable read aloud experience with children using different voices for different characters to help children recognize the dialogue in the story and better understand a character’s traits”.
