Prince Edward-Hastings MPP Todd Smith says it’s too late for the province to admit there was a mistake in its renewable energy strategy.

Last week, the Energy Minister said the province’s Green Energy Act was the right policy, but how it was rolled out led to increased electricity prices for Ontarians.

Smith, who is also the Ontario PC party’s Energy Critic, says information was available to the province that these renewable energy contracts would lead to Ontarians paying too much for electricity.

The Energy Minister says the province needs to stop setting targets for specific types of energy, and focus on a system where energy producers compete for contracts.
