MNRF says don’t feed the deer

If you see a deer near your home or on the roads, don’t feed it. That’s the message from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, who says many cars hit deer because the animals are crossing roads to get to feeders.

The Ministry says when deer gather around an artificial feeder it makes them a target for wolves and coyotes, and giving them the wrong food can make them sick.

The Ministry also notes they have metabolisms designed to store fat for the fall and winter, allowing them to survive with less food.
