Rabies will be continue to be monitored in the area

Hastings and Prince Edward Public Health says it will continue to monitor rabies cases in animals in the area. The health unit says the disease is nearly always fatal, and there have been a spike of cases in Ontario last year. There were 288 cases in 2016, versus 24 in 2015. The health unit says it has been working to prevent the spread of rabies to humans. Methods included investigating all animal biting incidents within 24 hours and offering low-cost rabies clinics.
