Mixed waste still an issue for Minden Hills

The issue of mixed materials in waste is getting mixed opinions from the Township of Minden Hills. Council is still undecided on how to deal with waste mixed with recyclable materials coming into the landfill. Usually compactor trucks bring in regular waste are charged $25, but if it appears they have recyclable materials mixed in, they’re charged $50.

Town staff suggested changing this to an overall flat fee of $35 to cut down on arguments between the drivers and the landfill workers. However, some councillors feel they should be charging even more than $50 if a truck brings in a pile of mixed waste.

With a shortage of councillors during the last meeting on March 9th, the issue has been pushed ahead.
