Scott petitioning Attorney General to keep Minden court house open

MPP Laurie Scott, will be calling on the Attorney General to stop the closure of the Provincial Offences Court in the Town of Minden. Scott says The decision to move the Court from Minden to Lindsay between July of 2017 and July 2018 has far-reaching consequences.

The government is moving forward with the closure despite the fact that there are currently only 33 justices of the peace in the Central East Region, where there should be 48. This has led to a situation where 1550 charges in the City of Kawartha Lakes and Haliburton did not receive a court date in 2016. Scott will be at the Minden courthouse, today at 3:00pm to formally launch a petition to the government.

The petition can be signed online at lauriescottmpp.com.
