Concerns about courthouse move being raised at Minden Hills council

Minden Hills is continuing to raise red flags about the closing of the provincial courthouse. CAO Lorrie Blanchard says it will cost the township almost $3,000 for the year it’s relocated to Lindsay.

The provincial court is moving because of a shortage of Justices of the Peace, because of which 80 court sittings had be cancelled last month. The Central East Region is short 15 JP’s, which includes three who are on long-term disability.

The township says it wasn’t consulted about the move, even though provincial offences cash goes to the municipality. The provincial court deals with things like speeding tickets and noise complaints.
