Laurie Scott is being recognized for her work to fight human trafficking.

The Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock M.P.P. was given the Champion for Children Award by the Boost Child and Youth Advocacy Centre in Toronto.

Scott says fighting human trafficking is a community effort.

Scott’s bill, called The Girl Next Door act, was passed in the legislature last month.

She mentions that since April, 20 victims of human trafficking have come forward.

She adds she hopes to host more awareness events around the province.
