The Haliburton Highlands O.P.P. says we are in bear country and need to be careful.

The detachment wanted to remind people after a black bear was spotted in a residential area near Bancroft.

Community Safety Officer Dianna Dauphinee says you can take precautions to keep bears from roaming on your property.

Dauphinee adds bears are creatures of habit so if they find food in an area, there’s a good chance they’ll be back.

If a bear is posing an immediate threat, call 911. If not, call the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry’s Bear Hotline at 1-866-514-2327.
