Minden Hills seeking provincial and federal assistance for ultraviolet wastewater treatment system

Minden Hills will be reaching out to both the provincial and federal governments to help manage wastewater.

A township official told council an ultraviolet treatment system at their wastewater facility could kill around 99 percent of bacteria in water without the use of chlorine.

The funding would come from the Clean Water and Wastewater Fund, a joint venture between Queen’s Park and Ottawa.

The total estimated cost would be just over $112,000, but the township would only be responsible for just over $37,000.

The township hasn’t said when they expect to hear if their grant application was successful.
