Jamie Schmale says he has received many calls and emails expressing frustration over the Omar Khadr situation.

The Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock M.P. says many people understand the decision to settle with Khadr but the $10.5 million payout was too much.

Schmale says many feel repatriating Khadr as a Canadian citizen was enough.

He adds many veterans feel the amount paid to Khadr is a slap in the face to Canada’s military.

Schmale also feels the settlement was a po9litical decision by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and not the Supreme Court.

The federal government announced the compensation payment on Friday along with an apology to Khadr for having his charter rights violated.

Khadr was found guilty of tossing a grenade in Afghanistan that killed an American soldier and injured another in 2002. He was tortured at a U.S. military base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and sent back to Canada in 2012 to serve the rest of his prison sentence.
