Mosquitoes carrying West Nile virus found in Haliburton last week

The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit has found West Nile virus carrying mosquitoes in Haliburton.

The H.K.P.R. Health Unit tested a batch of mosquitos they captured last week and they tested positive for the virus.

The health unit says no human cases of West Nile have been reported in Ontario this year.

Environmental Health Manager Richard Ovcharovich says if you are outside, cover up.

Ovcharovich also says cleaning up around your property can help keep mosquitoes away.

He adds West Nile and flu symptoms are very similar, but there is usually no runny nose with West Nile.

If you suspect you have the virus, the health unit suggests you see a doctor right away.
