Algonquin Highlands updates events insurance policy

Algonquin Highlands is updating their insurance policy so more community organizations can host events.

The new policy presented to council last week would automatically insure any group hosting events on municipal property.

The township’s current special events insurance policy states organizations have to provide proof of insurance for events or pay for their own event policy.

Mayor Carol Moffatt indicated the cost of additional insurance for organizations can sometimes be too much for some groups to handle.

Moffatt added council is happy to eliminate any road blocks for community events.

The cost of the policy is just under $1,300 a year, and would cover events where alcohol is served.
