Haliburton Chamber of Commerce supporting M.P. and county council in efforts to pull trademark of the name “Haliburton”

Haliburton’s business community is concerned about the name “Haliburton” being trademarked by a Minden resident.

Haliburton Highlands Chamber of Commerce President Richard Wannan believes the trademark Michael Stinson had approved in February should never have been granted in the first place.

Wannan says business owners are concerned but feels confident the error made by Ottawa will be corrected.

According to the Trade-marks Act, names of geographical places cannot be trademarked.

The act also says that a trademark cannot be pulled once it has been issued.

Wannan added the chamber fully supports Haliburton County and Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock M.P. Jamie Schmale in trying to get the trademark rescinded.
