Haliburton Highlands O.P.P. urges drivers to slow down near parked emergency vehicles

The Haliburton Highlands O.P.P. will be monitoring the roads for the civic long weekend.

While the detachment says it will keep an eye out for impaired driving, officers will be looking for drivers who get too close to emergency vehicles.

Community Safety Officer Dianna Dauphinee says if an emergency vehicle or tow truck is stopped on the side of the road with its lights flashing, you must slow down.

Dauphinee says the penalties can be high if you don’t slow down.

The Highway Traffic Act also says if you are on a multi-lane highway, you must give yourself a lane of separation between you and an emergency vehicle if you can do so safely.
