Haliburton Rail Trail to be used as detour route for road closure

The Haliburton Rail Trail may have to be used as a detour for vehicles starting September.

Minden Hills will be repairing two bridges on Ritchie Falls Road, which will force its closure to all vehicular traffic.

In an e-mail to the My Haliburton Now Newsroom, Minden Roads Superintendent Travis Wilson says work is expected to start the second week of September.

Wilson also said the work is expected to be finished the latest by December 22, but Ritchie Falls Road would be open to traffic much sooner than that.

He adds more details will be available when the contract for the work is awarded at Minden’s council meeting on Thursday.

Haliburton County Council approved the use of a 2.1 kilometre stretch of the rail trail to be used as a detour route.

Warden Brent Devolin said in council chambers he realizes this is an unpopular decision but the county didn’t see another option.
