Haliburton County’s Chief of Paramedic Services is worried about a potential legislative change.
Tim Waite is talking about a provincial proposal to amend the Ambulance Act, which would allow firefighters to respond to calls deemed less serious.
The proposal says any firefighter responding to a call would need to be trained as a paramedic.
Waite says that can be tricky considering all firefighters in the county, except the chiefs, are volunteers.
The province is looking for two communities to be pilot projects for the proposed changes.
E.M.S. services are split 50-50 between Queens Park and municipalities, but firefighter costs are funded 100 per cent at the lower tier level.
