Highlands East will be getting a new park along Dark Lake.

Wilberforce residents Carol and Karl Marcus donated the money to the municipality to purchase approximately seven acres of land for what will be known as Herlihey Park.

Highlands East hosted an open house asking residents for their input on what they would like to see in the park.

According to a report presented to council, the majority of people want to see a picnic area with benches, as well as well-lit walking trail.

Reeve Dave Burton says the municipality is thankful for the donation.

An e-mail asking the municipality how much was donated has not been returned.

The park will be formally unveiled on September 25th.
