Police say thieves are most likely to target cottages and seasonal homes between Thanksgiving and Victoria Day.
That’s why the Haliburton Highlands O.P.P. is reminding people getting ready to close up their cottages to keep crime prevention top of mind and have deterrent in place.
Constable Dianna Dauphinee says it’s important to protect things you have to leave at the cottage from theft.
She suggests storing your A.T.V. and boat, and also recommends having an alarm system and making sure the company has your contact information.
Police recommend also giving a permanent resident your contact information, and asking them to check on your property.
