Algonquin Highlands waives requirement for pavement design review for McClintock Quarry

Algonquin Highlands is rescinding its request for a pavement design review for the McClintock Quarry.

Council decided to waive the review after John Bacher Construction Limited reduced its extraction limit of the quarry.

Mayor Carol Moffatt says the significant reduction in the company’s extraction limit made council more comfortable.

Moffatt adds other businesses that regularly use the roads, such as propane deliveries and contractors, are not required to submit pavement design reviews.

She says determining who uses the roads the most would be a challenge.

Since the quarry, which is next to Harvey Lake is on crown land, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry could approve the expansion without any township input.

The plan in front of the M.N.R.F. would see the quarry expand from just under five acres to approximately 53.
