O.P.P. want the public to be vigilant to stop identity theft

The Haliburton Highlands O.P.P. wants you to be wary of identity fraud.

The O.P.P. reminds people that criminals can use government issued identification, such as a driver’s license or social insurance number, to steal your identity.

Fraudsters can then use that information to sign up for loans, set up bank accounts, and even access bank accounts illegally.

The O.P.P. suggests being wary of any unsolicited phone calls and e-mails asking for personal information and shredding personal and financial documents you no longer need.

If you suspect you are a victim of identity theft, call the Haliburton Highlands detachment or Crime Stoppers.
