Highlands East Reeve Dave Burton says the municipality has barely scratched the surface.
Burton made the comment in reference to Highland East’s tourism industry, specifically mineral collecting.
According to a tourism report, close to 100 enquiries were made in August at the information centre on mineral collecting, including a group from the United States.
Burton says the municipality’s reputation as a hot spot for rock collecting is not just limited to south of the border.
Burton says one of his goals as reeve has been to promote Highlands East as a premier mineral collection destination.
Boosting tourism to Highlands East and make it more environmentally friendly is part of the municipality’s strategic plan, which was reviewed in council yesterday.
