Switching of phone service could save Algonquin Highlands over 50 per cent on annual phone bill

Algonquin Highlands is looking to cut its phone bill by approximately 56 per cent.

The township is currently testing Voice over Internet Protocol phone service, which would replace traditional analog service.

Council is looking to learn more about the technology after learning its phone systems at the Stanhope and Dorset offices are no longer supported by their vendors.

Currently, the township has 32 analog phone and fax lines.

Haliburton County is implementing V.O.I.P. phone service, which will give the municipalities a chance to share in software costs with the county.
