Murray Fearrey says last week’s disruption in phone and internet service is an eye opener.
The Haliburton County Councilor made the comment in regards to a severed cable which took out phone service for as many as 1,500 properties.
Fearrey says the interruption in service raises serious questions if there is an emergency.
Fearrey also says a major concern is with an older population, people may not have a way to reach family members, especially if they don’t have a cell phone.
Phone and internet service has since been restored but Fearrey says last week’s experience is a reminder for municipal politicians on the importance of keeping on top of emergency management plans.
