Minden Hills Mayor Brent Devolin worried about potential costs associated with pot legalization

Brent Devolin expects much of the costs of legalizing marijuana to fall on municipalities.

The Minden Hills Mayor says he was at a conference last year where he got to hear from officials from Colorado, where pot is legal.

Devolin says even though most of the tax from cannabis sales will likely flow to the federal and provincial governments, enforcement costs will likely be on lower-tier governments.

Devolin also says there are many unanswered questions on what types of bylaws can be created governing marijuana.

Under the federal legislation, residents can grow up to four plants at home.

Recreational pot will be legal next Canada Day.
