County council Moffatt says Ontario’s proposed Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act could force municipalities to raise taxes

Haliburton County has a clearer picture of how a minimum wage increase will impact its budget.

According to a report shown to council, raising the minimum wage to $14 an hour on January 1st of next year will add close to $274,000 in staff costs.

County Councilor Carol Moffatt the pending legislation could cause an increase in municipal taxes.

Moffatt also says there are other aspects to the Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act that will strain the purse strings of lower tier governments.
