A new sub-committee at Highlands East will be dedicated to dealing with department complaints. A recent delegation had council hearing complaints about the Chief Building Official.
At the June 17 council meeting, the municipality’s lawyer advised council that delegations are not the proper process for handling complaints. As a result, councilors voted to create a sub-committee for this purpose. The committee will be comprised of the Reeve, Deputy-Reeve, and CAO.
The municipality’s CAO, Sharon Stoughton-Craig said details still need to be discussed with lawyers to ensure the proper procedures are followed. When asked if personnel complaints will fall under that category, or if they would still be brought to council in a closed session, Reeve Dave Burton said he would think so, but specifics still need to be decided. Stoughton-Craig will also determine whether or not these sub-committee meetings will be open to the public or media.
