H.K.P.R. says children at risk of falls

The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District wants to help prevent children from falling.

According to the health unit, falls are the leading cause of injury-related hospital admissions for children 9-years-old and younger in Canada.

Nurse Shelley Shaughnessy says not only seniors are at risk of falls.

Shaughnessy suggests keeping drawers locked with latches so kids cannot climb onto high places.

She also suggests securing TV’s and bookshelves so they don’t topple over if children try to climb them.
