County-wide multi-dimensional event in early planning

The County of Haliburton Tourism Committee is at it again, planning another big event. Director of Tourism, Amanda Ranson says Abbey Gardens and the Arts Council will be working together in conjunction with Adventure Haliburton to plan a multi-dimensional event.

In an email to Moose FM, Ranson says “the festival would bring the core assets of #MyHaliburtonHighlands together.” It would focus on outdoor adventure, arts/culture/heritage and food.

The planning is still at an early stage, but Ranson has submitted the recommendation for the county to support the festival through marketing and promotion.

The idea of the event is to have people sample different pieces of the Highlands through various locations in the county. The original proposal suggested the event take place in the Sculpture Forest. However, when brought to the tourism committee, public appointee member Barb Bolin suggested events take place throughout the county to highlight the various areas and what they have to offer.

Council will vote to support the event at the next council meeting. Ranson says they will be applying for funding through the EODP program, administered by HCDC. She said they will be waiting for the results of the application before moving ahead with planning. If it is approved, work on the project would begin in September of this year.
