Lower-tier politicians in Haliburton County could attend meetings without being in council chambers.

The Modernizing Ontario’s Municipal Legislation Act would allow for attendance by phone or by software like Skype.

County council says much of the details around virtual attendance at meetings is unclear.

Councillor Carol Moffatt is against the idea of electronic participation.

Moffatt also wonders how focused someone who is using Facetime or Skype to attend a meeting would be.

Councillors have questions as to what technology can be used for meetings but do know that politicians cannot participate in closed sessions unless they are there in person.
