H.H.H.S. left out of funding for long-term care beds

Haliburton Highlands Health Services will not receive provincial funding for long-term care beds.

H.H.H.S. President and C.E.O. Carolyn Plummer says the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care is investing in additional long-term care space but it will not be at the Haliburton and Minden Hills hospitals.

The Central East Local Health Integration Network is getting funding for a total of 128 beds but they will be in other areas such as Lindsay and Peterborough.

Plummer says there is no room for additional beds at the Haliburton hospital.

Plummer adds one problem is that regular patient care beds are being used for long-term care.

Plummer also says patients in need of long-term care space in the county are being sent to hospitals in Lindsay and Peterborough.

She mentions she will be advocating the province for more beds.
