Algonquin Highlands will see a rise inlandfill costs thanks to Bill 148

Thanks to the Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act, Algonquin Highlands’ landfill bill will increase.

Council and the company servicing the landfill agreed to extend the contract until March 31^st of 2018 so the township could finalize next year’s budget.

The act passed the final reading in Queen’s Park on November 27^th, which means the minimum wage goes from $11.60 to $14.00 an hour on January 1^st.

The extra cost to Algonquin Highlands will be $2,564.64 for the first three months of next year.

The township and landfill contractor will look into an extension in the new year.
